Shying from the light

When I moved away to Vancouver, which was about an hour flight away from where we grew up, I phoned my mom once from the groceries store. And I was in the produce section, like with all the fruits and vegetables and stuff and I phoned my mom and I was like ‘Oh my god! I found the most a-ma-zing thing! They’re called… ‘fruu-iits’… fruuiits?’ And she was like ‘Oh shut up I gave you lots of fruits!’. But the thing is we’re pretty short and I don’t think fruits count as pineapple on a pizza…

I think it takes a lifetime to learn how to do it, but for sure I think even in the last few months we’ve learnt how to accommodate each other a little bit more. There is a certain amount of stress that you wouldn’t have if you didn’t have a sibling on the road, but at the same time, there’s a certain amount of security in knowing that we can ignore each other or we can be annoyed at each other, but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to quit. I know I can show up at the club and she’s not going to be AWOL. There’s security in knowing that she can be dependant and she loves me and cares about me and sometimes when you’re dealing with people like managers or even record companies or the band or whatever, you never know when you’re going to get the call saying ‘Yeah, you’re not paying me enough, see you later. Sara can’t say that. (…) She could if she wanted to, but then she’d be disowned from the family and I would become the favourite.
